Eng. Ezio Rendina

Ezio Rendina, engineer, graduated with full marks from the Polytechnic of Milan in 1988. The story of his singular professional career begins even earlier, in his fourth year of university, when he had the opportunity to collaborate with the Traffic Study Centre: the first study of traffic engineering in Italy, founded by Eng. Pietro Gelmini after an experience in London with Colin Buchanan, at the time the greatest expert on the topic. It is at this juncture that the so-called "call" arrives and Rendina throws herself into the work, focusing on the study of the acoustic impact of traffic and - given the lack of scientific material in the field - analyzing numerous publications in foreign languages.

In 1990, after qualifying for the profession and the end of his military service, the engineer decided to take the big leap and inaugurate his business: the only Italian firm, at the time, focused on acoustic and vibro-metric engineering. . The beginning of this pioneering path goes hand in hand with the issuing of the first Italian law on acoustics, in 1991, which proved to be a fundamental step in giving shape to a truly new profession. Thus the oldest acoustic engineer - professionally speaking - in our country has never stopped making the most of the fusion of his technical skills with a particular auditory sensitivity, probably inherited from his orchestra director grandfather.

With over thirty years of experience, Rendina can count - to date - over 350 publications, among which stand out specialist articles on building and environmental acoustics, interviews in well-known national newspapers such as Il Sole 24 Ore and Il Corriere della Sera, or still sector books of which he is the author and co-author. Among the latter, in particular, we mention the recent "Smart Office for Smart People - new work spaces" - published by the ISTUD Foundation in 2020 - and "Noise Pollution: addressing and resolving the problem" - published by Keyeditore in 2019.

Beyond his freelance profession, Rendina has held important positions such as the presidency of the Strategic Control and Evaluation Unit of ARPA (Regional Environmental Protection Agency) and of Punti Energia scarl: a public company involved in assisting projects for energy efficiency and renewable energy sources. He is also a consultant to the presidency of Assoedilizia (Milan Association of Building Ownership) and was a strategic assistant for Assimpredil-ANCE (Association of building construction companies of Milan, Lodi, Monza and Brianza), with a focus on issues relating to the new acoustic legislation for construction.

Viva Consulting & Management, founded by Rendina, has more than 500 projects behind it, which transversally affect the fields of road, railway, construction, architectural and airport acoustics. Among the most recent we mention the new Cagliari Calcio stadium; the Galfa Tower, the new “Quanta” Towers and the Generali Tower, or Hadid Tower. Added to these experiences are a series of interventions in the hospitality sector, which include prestigious locations such as the Hotel Cala di Volpe in Arzachena (OL), the Hotel Cheval Blanc in Paris and the future Hotel Cipriani in Milan.

Rendina completes his "mission" through a long relationship with the Academy; in fact, already a year after graduation, he began to provide teaching assistance in the fourth year of Engineering. He was then a professor at the faculties of Engineering and Environmental Sciences, teaching master's and specialization courses, as well as refresher courses at the College of Engineers and Architects of Milan.

He is currently dedicating himself in particular to the profession which - with the pandemic and the related remote working - finds itself facing new challenges, to guarantee the well-being, acoustic comfort and productivity of those who experience work spaces.
